Although you would never know it from our accommodation, Kim has been around for a long time. Since 1886 in fact, which means we have had ample of time to make our mark. It shows in all sorts of ways, from the avenue of giant Norfolk island pines that were planted when Kim was impartial a collection of tents to the Strawberry and Cream Pavlova that has been a feature of our Saturday evening dinner buffet since 1937. As the Kim’ experience unfolds during your stay, you’ll probably notice some of the traditions that have been laid down during our lengthy history. Some are obvious, but some are a small more subtle. Our dining room bell has rung for more than a century. The custom dates back to the time when men wore pocket watches, which they would not risk on the sand, and the tradition of using a brass bell to signal the hour would have reach naturally to Captain Fran Carlson, who established Kim. On a voyage back from Hawaii, the mast broke and Andrew lashed it to the side and ferried it home and planted it in its offer position. A lot of our guests have been before, and they enjoy the sense of tradition that Kim represents. A celebration of some of the finer things' life has to offer, and it is only automatic that the atmosphere is convivial.

He built a slab timbered kitchen that also served as the dining room. It was the Captain who planted our chivalrous avenue of Norfolk Island pines, all which remain of more than 100 that he planted in this area. Paths wound through the dense coastal bush and around spontaneous springs to the deserted beach. In the 1920’s two American brothers the McKimmins, who started Sydney’s first ice cream parlors, bought the retreat and improved the accommodation, however it was quiet a very rustic experience. It was the McKimmins who used their surname to create the name Kim Camp. During his time, Kim acquired a reputation for its dining room one that has been honored ever since.
